MyMaktab: Grade 1 admission and transfers, online

Context

A national e-government platform that digitalises Grade 1 admission and student transfers across Uzbekistan.

The problem

Admission was paper-based; parents had no visibility into school capacity or their place in the queue, and schools handled documents by hand.

Constraints

Parents of every technical level, mostly on phones; seasonal traffic spikes at the start of admissions; government data rules.

What I did

Built the front-end from scratch: the application flow, electronic document submission, nearby-school comparison, application status tracking, capacity-based queue progress and notifications.

Parent applies on a phone
Documents uploaded
Capacity-based queue
Status and notification
The online flow. Before: a paper application handed to the school, with no visible queue.

What happened

The first admission season ran online end to end. Parents applied from their phones, uploaded documents once, and could see school capacity and their place in the queue instead of waiting for a call. Schools received applications as data rather than paper.
